Finesse In Spring

Spring Time Red on Ned

For several years, a Z-Man Finesse TRD on a 1/6-ounce NedlockZ Jig has been my favorite cold weather lure. In tough, post cold front conditions, the Ned Rig consistently produces Trout and Redfish. The Ned Rig also excels in cold water situations. Here in the Lowcountry, cold water is anything below 55-degrees. We typically experience these water temperatures in January, February and March. The same months that bring the passage of strong cold fronts on a weekly basis. In this timeframe, the Ned Rig gets a lot of work.

Towards the end of last Winter, I decided to keep fishing the Ned Rig until it stopped producing fish. Spring arrived, and the water temperature rose into the 60-degree range. To my surprise, the Ned Rig continued to be a highly productive lure. Spring turned into Summer. Redfish, Trout and Flounder ate the Ned Rig with gusto. Heck, even our warm weather migratory species like Spanish Mackerel and Ladyfish found the little lure irresistible. Turns out, the Ned Rig is a lure for all seasons.

It's not just for post cold front situations anymore!
